I Am Number Four Literary Analysis â€Å"I am told the ground shook, that the skies were full of light and explosions,† Pittacus Lore said in the book I am Number Four (6). I am Number Four by Pittacus Lore is a book about a group called the Loric and their clashes with the Mogadorians, the main character, John is a Garde which is a race of Loric that has special powers called legacies. Also the Garde are much more advanced than the humans because of their extreme strength and Intellect. Also, Henri John s Cepan, which is a guard of the Garde and are used to protect the Garde and to ensure that the Garde’s legacies develop. When they move to Ohio a strange series of events happened. In I am Number Four there are many unique characteristics that make it such a good book such as its Futuristic setting, its cautious mood and it s hopeful theme. In the first place, the Setting of Future Ohio had affected the characters by affecting their communication and their love lives. Henri says â€Å"‘Don’t worry,’ he says. ‘They can’t track emails. At least not the way I send them.’†(Lore 192). The fact that they can have their email not be trackable shows futuristic technology and thinking this causes Henri to be able to contact the outside world. The task group recommended that there should be benefits awareness of the procedures and policies related to occupational road safety, recruitment, in particular, safety culture, training, stress management and stress management. In addition to above, the task group demonstrated the good practice models that are related to risk management in the road safety and showed that how both small and large organizations, with a variety of the driving vehicles and activities, can implement the significant procedures with maximum benefits. The recommendations are as follows. These procedures should employ for addressing of the road safety that is work related which includes risk assessment, incidents reporting, drivers training, use of the mobile phones, breakdown assistance/guidance, vehicle maintenance, alternative transport means, awareness campaign and incentives programs (Quartey, Wang Kim, 2011). Policies are operative more when they are co-ordinated by the safety and health specialists in corporation with the risk/insurance management staff and fleet managers (Sathiyasusuman, 2011). There should be a commitment from the senior managers and employees inclusion when there is the development of risk assessment and procedure to accurate the data for the measurement of the improvement is the vital components of the significant system. The employers scrutiny is essential, along with road accidents regulatory reports that occurred at work under injuries reporting, Diseases and dangerous occurrence regulation 1995 (Quartey, Wang Kim, 2011).Moreover, the task group proposed that employers that have substantial drivers numbers should submit the safety case to HSE for the operating license. The sales staffs contribute about 5% to 20% of total staff as they work on the promotion and marketing of the new and existing product . The health issues associated with the sales staffs are driving, workplace violence, stress, ergonomic issues and use of the mobile phones. The researcher should incorporate all such plausible and relevant questions that will be helpful in achieving this aim. While conducting an interview, researchers are at an advantage of extracting much more out of the respondent than from a questionnaire. It is because of the nature of the method that gives the freedom to the researcher to pay attention to the gestures and body language of the participant in addition to obtaining a response. When evaluating and getting ready to present the data, the researcher should not forget what the purpose has been all along. Also a general code of conduct and ethics should not be breached at any stage of the research as that would deem the study false. One question for graduating high school students is to go on to school to further their education and get a degree, or get a job and make money. If they choose to pursue an education, there are different degrees for them to get. For example, associate degree, bachelor degree, or an advanced degree such as a master degree. These choices are difficult for a young adult to make. The benefits of a higher education include: higher salaries, better long term health, children who perform at a higher level and lower divorce rates. Those with a master’s degree earned almost twice as much over people who have jobs as just a high school graduate. The higher levels of education lead to both higher levels of earnings for individuals. A person with a typical bachelor’s degree can earn about 61 percent more over a 40 year working life than a high school graduate. Studies show that people with a high school degree make $31,500 a year for fulltime year around workers. People with a master’s degree make $61,300 a year fulltime year around workers. The cause of going to school for extra years and earning a more advanced degree will affect how big your salaries will be. When a high school graduate choose to pursue an education they are more likely to live a healthier life. At every age and income level, higher levels of education are correlated with better health. At every age, individuals with a higher level of education are more likely to participate in a light exercise than those with lower levels of education. Smoking rates among college graduates have been significantly lower than smoking rates among other adults. Also individuals with a higher education level are less likely to become involved with drugs and have an alcohol problem. The cause of people not going to college to further their education will have an effect on their health for the rest of their life. Children with parents that have a college education are more likely to be more advanced and active in their age group. Studies show that 35 percent of kids whose parents have bachelor’s degree can recognize all of the letters of the alphabet before preschool, while 20 percent of kids whose parents just have a high school education. Children whose parents have a bachelor’s degree 55 percent have 3 to 4 skills, when 35 percent do whose parents just have an high school diploma. Parents with a higher education level their children are more likely to participate in after school activities nearly double than those with just a high school education. The cause of you going to pursue a higher education will have a great effect on your children. It will help them develop into better adults, which will help out society greatly. People pursuing a higher education will benefit society greatly. Higher levels of education are correlated with higher levels of participation in volunteer activities. The amount of hours a individual with a bachelors degree volunteers is 55, a person with just a high school diploma are close to 20 percent. Even blood donation goes up with a higher education. In every age group, adults with higher levels of education are more likely to vote than those with a less of an education. Almost every age group a bachelor’s degree nearly doubles a high school graduate who votes. The cause of having a higher education will have an effect on society in the future. When you have a college degree you are likely to get a good reliable job. A job that pays well, be your own boss, work the hours of your choice, and do what you love. If an individual would just have a high school diploma you could be stuck standing all day in a factory line working horrible night shifts doing the same thing all night. You could be not making the money you thought you would, have a horrible boss who yells at you and take orders from him all day. Another benefit of having a higher education is having a job that supplies you with health insurance. Unemployment rates are much lower for college graduates than for high school graduates. Having any degree increases your chances of not being unemployed greatly. Individuals with just high school diplomas will have a greater chance of living in poverty than those with a college degree. The cause of getting a college degree, will affect the rest of your life if you are going to be unemployed or living in poverty. While on the surface it appears to be a difficult decision, it turns out to be a really easy choice to make. Once you know the benefits in obtaining a degree the decision becomes much easier. Society has undergone a massive change in the last few decades, with respect to both economic and social environment. And this change has affected people of all age groups, starting from children and adolescents to the young, middle aged and old. The pressures to perform either at school/college level or at jobs are enormously high. Tinged with competition, technological advancement as well as the increasing materialism, and hence with changing norms for social status and respect has set people into a mad frenzy of desires.With these changing definitions, people now are unable to define needs, wants & desires. What maybe was a luxury in yesterday’s generation is a need in today’s generation. But what people fail to understand is â€Å"Desires are many, needs are few. Needs can be fulfilled; desires never. A desire is a need Bone crazy. It is impossible to fulfill it. The more you try to fulfill it, the more it goes on asking and asking'† So in this mad frenzy of satisfying desires people forget the one of the basic needs for mental stability and peace†¦a healthy relationship.Man is a social animal and this is important for his survival and he is neglecting almost all relations-â€Å"Parents, friends, siblings,children etc, but the most prominent failing relation is between a man and a woman, be it husband & wife or a relationship. As per laws of nature its natural that a man and a woman develop an attraction which sometimes culminates into a relationship and sometimes ends in marriage, but we are seeing increasing number of broken marriages ,wherein there are irreconcilable differences between a couple and they carry on due to some binding factors like children or society.Sometimes these broken marriages end in divorce and sometimes don’t. The same happens to relationships too and people flit from one relation to another trying to find that deluding peace and happiness. Failure of relationships & marriages-WHY: We believe that if we have someone who wants the same things as we do, it would be a happy relationship. We believe in an overtly romantic ideal which sets us up for disappointment.Having chosen each other on the basis of similarity we have no skills to resolve the differences that inevitably emerge between any two people, and  our romantic spirit is crushed as easily as a paper bag. We avoid conflict when we should be training ourselves on its barbs. We have come to think of compromise as a dirty word. When in fact you get nowhere in real life without it. We look for partners who give us no problems, rather than partners we are good at overcoming problems with. We fail to understand that a man & woman are basically different, not only physically but emotionally as well.Their reaction to a situation or an approach to a problem is always different, and it requires a great deal of patience & understanding to bridge this communication gap between a man and a woman. When a relationship culminates int o marriage, and a couple stay together, these inevitable differences crop up more, and things, which looked trivial or were not noticed in the relationship phase, now come into the forefront and slowly look like major hurdles, which couples find difficult to cope up.Instead of accepting each other, they set about finding flaws and try to make the other person think and behave like them. The undying frenzy in this age of materialism, adds to this, comparisons in social circles take place, expectations arise giving rise to ego, and the couple slowly start drifting apart mentally and emotionally and an invisible and impregnable wall is built between them. Not to mention many a times that also parents from either side are fuelling factors in this.The boy’s parents are still bound mentally in their times and they are unable to cope up with these changing times, and have expectations as were expected of them during their times , sometimes trivial issues becoming major factors for a break up. I personally know of a issue in my friend’s family, wherein an argument broke over an issue, of excessive salt being put in Dal. The argument took such major proportions, and so many other underlying issues came up that my friends elder brother and sister in law left the house and took up a house outside and separated.Funny and sad too. But what needs to be introspected, is what proportions a trivial issue took to. Was it really worth it? An issue of momentary discomfort which could have been just ignored. So also the girl’s parents in a bid to be over protective about their daughter keep interfering in her family life and adding fuel to fire. I know of another trivial issue which could have been solved between a couple, but because of the interference of the girl’s parents, which further fuelled the ego in both sides, and it finally ended in a divorce.So what are the basics to keep a relationship or marriage ticking:1) Both need to accept that howeve r similar interests they share, they are basically two different individuals, hence differences are bound to crop up sooner or later. Also like some famous author said â€Å"Men are from Mars and Women are from Venus†.. hence their emotional psyches are different and this needs to be kept in mind.2) Women need to understand a man more than loving him and a Man needs to love a woman more rather than trying to understand her .3) Both need to keep in mind that only both of them can solve their differences and adjust. Family or friends cannot do it for them. At best family or friends can be helpful in cooling down a highly volatile situation.4) They should think that we see right or wrong from our point of view.. when we understand a person and think from that person’s shoes we may think otherwise.5) Most of the times, a woman doesn’t want a solution rather she wants a sympathetic ear, so men have to listen more and offer less solutions. Rather a sympathetic ear and small tokens of affection works. Women also need to understand a man’s need for his family and friends too. Its common knowledge that men form more die hard friendships then women and women need to understand that, when a man loves his parents or siblings or his friends and spends time with them too, it doesn’t mean he loves her less.6) However arguments and fights are natural. Both should understand that they are in a way healthy and most of the issues are mundane. Hence they should learn not to carry it to the future. It should be dropped there and then. Please remember that, if we hold on to the past, then we can’t move forward.7) If a relationship culminates in marriage, then the woman has to accept that like her parents and siblings are an inseparable part of her, so also are the boy’s parents and siblings are inseparable parts of him. Since parents belong to a different generation, there will be differences, but the solution doesn’t lie in d rifting apart. It lies in accepting them as they are and keeping communication clear with your spouse and with his help bridging that gap. There can also be closed room, open discussion between the boy and his father to find ways to close this gap.8) So also the boy has to understand that the girl’s parents mean the same to her and hence he shouldn’t unduly restrict her or interfere in regards to her parents. He should also respect her parents as he does his own but take caution that, they don’t interfere in their married life.9) Parents also on the other hand, need to be made to understand either through counseling or in open minded discussions to accept either son in law or daughter in law as they are, in order to keep peace in the family.â€Å"Expectation instead of acceptance leads to problems† is something needed to be understood by the couple as well as the parents. â€Å"Build bridges not walls† Finally after taking care of these basics, if still there are irreconcilable differences between a couple, which are a constant source of tension and is detrimental to mental peace and development, and the couple is finding it difficult to carry on, then its best to end the relationship or marriage amicably, rather than suffering continuously or mud slinging at each other. Remember â€Å"A momentary pain is better than a life long suffering†.

Ben Kaufman who is the CEO of Kluster- he has everybody finish a to do list he is very hand on and does not share his leadership roles with his subordinates that the â€Å"Characteristics of an Effective Team† dictate. The CEO Ben Kaufman is the only leader of the group. He makes to do lists for the individuals he is a Contingent Reward Manager (leadership Model pg 279), this causes for the team to be less effective. The team needs to have more control of their own work and more leadership roles stated in the Characteristics of an Effective team (pg165) The Illuminator group does not seem to have diversity. They are all computer white males who are computer or software designers/ programmers. This causes a lack of diversity, which can reduce many key aspects that this team needs such as increased creativity, flexibility, and problem solving skills- Team composition, Diversity (pg 171) Teams are usually really good, but there are times where teams are not preferable. Ben Kaufman is not allowing his group of people to work individually. Yes he is allowing for Virtual teams that meet but this is also everyday. This is not an ideal situation for everybody every day. This wastes time and children suffer for nostalgia for a system that no longer has a specific purpose. Another reason that this system prevails is that communities have complete control of their school systems, only complying with federal standards where financial incentives put pressure on the districts. Education is not universally standardized from one community to the next, thus there is no nationally recognized conformity. Certain standards are expected and assessed through tests which allow federal funds to become available, but the systems are still autonomous (Ravitch 105). The American systems are burdened by this autonomy with each community having a different set of expectations and standards that mus t then be set into a position to conform to state and then federal systems in order to qualify for funding that supplements the community’s own funding for the schools. While this helps community schools to have structure, it does not standardize education across that nation. This creates wide disparities from one educational system to the next. Pressures on students in American schools is most often assessed through per pressures as students compete in the social setting, immaterial to academic achievement. Students do not take their academic achievement near as seriously as the social pressures within their classes and their social structure creates classifications that stereotype each individual student’s experience.... This paper approves that both systems would benefit from a reconstruction of the way in which education is approached. Both systems tend to focus on the needs that the state puts forth for student achievement, rather than the purposes of education. The systems require cultural adjustments to how education is perceived. Both systems are subject to social beliefs that hamper the true purpose of education which is to increase the intellectual responses that students have to the world. Because of being stuck in cultural morays that dictate belief systems that are focused solely on financial success, a great loss of potential is experienced as the end is seen as the only goal, rather than the journey towards that end. Culture is getting in the way of meaningful learning. This essay makes a conclusion that while greatly diverse in cultural systems, the Chinese and the American school systems suffer from similar results that come from very different sources. The problems with the education in both systems are defined by the failures of the cultures to assess the true needs of students as they head towards the future. While the Chinese culture supports a more realistic foundation of the needs of success, the American system allows for the pursuit of more individuated goals and experimentation with outside activities. The nature of education, however, the ability to become resources for innovation towards a better future is stunted in both systems as students face pressures that are not about academics, but about beliefs that are defined by social pressure.
